Explanation as to why projects fail Essay Example for Free
Explanation as to why projects fail Essay Lack of staff expertise Having the right members of staff is very crucial when running a project. Project mangers have to be extremely careful when employing members of staff, hiring people that do not know how to use tools during the development of a project can result in time consumption. Going over the budget If the project manager wastes more money then necessary, then how their project going to be able to continue, how will members of staff get paid, and where are they going to get the money for the tools that are needed. Project managers have to always be wary about how much money is being spent and to always keep track of their budget and avoid spending too much money. Insufficient details from client It is extremely important for the project manager to find out as many details as possible in order to create the product for them. If there are not enough details and the product is made, the client may not be satisfied and therefore the project has failed as well as the project manager. There are projects out there that do not give enough requirements which have led to cases where the developers of the project having no input from the client, and create a project that they believe is needed without them knowing anything about the business itself. When the project has then been given to the client, business users will then say that it does not do what is needed to be done. This is also connected to a lack of user involvement; a user has to always know exactly what they want and have the ability to specify it precisely. Not enough proper time to research and plan Before any project starts, planning has to always be taken place in order to prepare for the unexpected so that we can react quicker minimising any problems as much as possible. But if not enough time has been given to properly plan and also to research a product, that will only increase the risk of the project failing. Using the wrong kind of tools There are many different kinds of softwares that can be used for many different kinds of things. Using the wrong software can be almost impossible or difficult to do the project. For example to create a spreadsheet, Microsoft Excel will be needed. But if Microsoft FrontPage is provided, then it would be impossible to create the spreadsheet because FrontPage is used to make websites and WebPages, not spreadsheets. They can over-run (passed the deadline) If a project has passed its deadline, it has failed and the client will probably not be able to afford the project any longer and will terminate the project. Projects can pass the deadline simply because certain problems may have been very difficult to overcome and therefore time-consuming. Other things can also include members of staff not working full time or not working properly in the project. Poor communication People have to communicate with each other in order to know what is happening and what is going on. If people do not communicate with each other then how they will know if they are doing everything in the correct order and if everything is working perfectly in order for them to continue. It is extremely important that members of staff tell each other when to apply certain things or when to start creating little bits in order to make the project. Lack of User Involvement Everyone that has been hired to carry out the project must always be involved so that project can run as smoothly as planned. A lack of user involvement can prove to be fatal for any kind of project. Every user has to be involved otherwise nobody in the business will be committed to a system and may be also hostile to it. In order to have a successful project every single user has to be involved from the start of the project and continue to be involved throughout the whole development. Changes in the requirements. While a project is being developed, what can sometimes happen is that the client can suddenly decide to add more details to the production of the project, because of this happening many projects has failed simply because there was not enough time to finish the project due to the amount of time that it took to add those extra details. Long or Unrealistic Time periods Sometimes clients give project managers a ridiculous amount of time to finish a project when it is impossible because there maybe few members of staff, or not enough money to pay for tools that are needed to create the project. Project managers have to plan carefully how much time is needed to create a whole project, a manager will have to take in consideration how much members of staff are needed and for how much time. Managers have to also be aware of any unrealistic time periods, for example for a product to arrive or a specific tool or software. Waiting for tools to be delivered could take a week or more which could have an impact over the whole project. It is recommended that project managers review all project plans so that they will be able to see if they are all realistic before they proceed with anything. Poor Testing People that are developing projects will have to carefully test them and also test to see if it meets the business requirements. But testing can sometimes fail because of many faults, these can include: à Poor requirements à Tests not done properly or not at all à Trained users that do not know the purpose of the system à Insufficient time to perform tests as the project is late Bad decisions being made This can involve wrong decisions that have been made by the project manager. Bad decisions can normally happen if no planning has taken place and the project manager does things without any meaning or thinking about it, managers will need to carefully make any decision. An example of this could be hiring more staff then needed or buying more softwares then needed for the project. why their conscience is not their guide :: essays research papers
Why Their Conscience Is Not Their Guide? In recent years there has been a serious shift in values among our Turks and Caicos families in terms of ideals handed down to children. Have you noticed how parents are going out of their way to purchase their children the latest designer wear? Be it Fubu or Phat Farm or Tommy Hilfiger. But have you also noticed that many of these parents do not go out of their way to make sure their homework is done or that they are in fact learning something in school? Have you noticed that kids are walking around with cell phones strapped to them and some the latest model? But have you also noticed that many of these same parents do not make sure that their children have a Bible or that they go to Sunday School or Church? HAVE YOU NOTICED HOW MATERIALISTIC AND SUPERFICIAL OUR CHILDEN ARE BEING RAISED WITH THE GREATEST RESPECT FOR MATERIAL POSSESSIONS RATHER THAN GOOD MANNERS AND SPIRTUAL VALUES? Well, I have and I am actually sicken by this shift in recent years. Tonight, I sat in a meeting and heard about the drug abuse and criminal activities among High School and College students: our future. And I questioned myself as to real fact that if our youth, our future does not realize they are the future and if parents donââ¬â¢t realise that their kids are the future and if society on a whole continues to watch our future drink and smoke themselves into a drunken stupor and slowly poison their minds with drugs, where will we be as a people? My mother is a very community minded person always cooking for community functions and playing for community events such as funerals, weddings and church services, including playing every Sunday morning in her own Church in South Caicos. Her mother raised her in the Church and ensured that she learnt a musical instrument. She in turn raised my siblings and to serve in any way we can in our community and she also made sure that we each learnt a musical instrument. Why am I saying this? There was a successive plan in my family not consciously I am sure but because they were raised that way, my mother and my grandmother raised their children that way. Parents are not making the Church an important institution in the lives of their children.

Cold Virus Strain Linked To Childhood Obesity
Cold Virus Strain Linked To Childhood Obesity Medical experts have carried out studies on the causes of obesity in children and their results indicate that exposure to a cold virus causes more children to be overweight. The virus is called adenovirus 36 (AD36) and it manifests itself through frequent colds and bowel difficulties.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Cold Virus Strain Linked To Childhood Obesity specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to Philips (2010), children who are exposed to the viral cold are said to have high chances of adding more weight than the other children who had never suffered from this illness. Other studies indicate that animals that were injected with the same virus became obese thus the effects of this virus are similar in both humans and animals. The above argument is inductive in nature because the generalized conclusion arises from specific experiments. Researchers considered a certain number of children and then t ested for AD36 with the aim of coming up with the conclusion. This shows some truth about the argument but does not entirely support the conclusion. While the above argument may be true AD36 is not the only cause of obesity because there are other factors that contribute to obesity such as genes and eating habits (Dhurandhar, 2007). There are children who inherit obesity genes from there parents. This means that even if these children eat very little food they will still be obese. However, there are children who are obese because they eat more food. Most mothers assume that the best thing they can do to their child is feed him/her frequently. What most parents donââ¬â¢t understand is that the child is not active and hence the excess food that he or she consumes is converted into fat because itââ¬â¢s not needed by the body and since the baby is still inactive the excess fat in its body can not be burned. This is because they donââ¬â¢t use much energy (Kiess et al., 2004). Ca ses of obesity have increased more than double compared to previous decades because the kind of food that is fed to the children comprises of chemicals that were initially fed to the farm animals to induce their appetite to make them mature faster. Perhaps the residues of these chemicals are not fully exhausted by the time we consume the meat and vegetables hence they continue to react within our bodies and when we are making babies we pass the same compounds to our children (Augustus et al., 2005). Nowadays everything has changed because children are not allowed to play that much because technology has made things easier by introducing computer games which keeps children indoors (Atkinson, 2007). When a child has grown enough to be able to attend school they rarely walk because they travel by school transport even when they are covering a short distance. Additionally most parents give their children a lot of junk food instead of a balanced diet.Advertising Looking for criti cal writing on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Therefore, parents should allow their children to be active because thatââ¬â¢s the only way excess fat can be burnt other wise if these children donââ¬â¢t regulate their weight their expected lifespan will reduce because they are prone to diseases that are associated with obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart attacks. This is because the excess body fat places itself on the walls of blood veins and thus the pressure of blood flow increases. In the previous decades such illnesses were unheard of among children but the sudden change in lifestyle has rendered most children prone to these diseases. Children should be encouraged to play more outdoor games than just watching television and playing computer games because idling does not only contribute to obesity but it also makes them to be less creative. Battles Of The Civil War Essay Research
Battles Of The Civil War Essay, Research Paper John Brown one time said, Now, if it is deemed necessary that I should give up my life for the promotion of the terminals of justness, and mix my blood further with the blood of my kids and with the blood of 1000000s in this slave state whose leotardss are disregarded by wicked, barbarous, and unfair passages, # 8211 ; I submit ; so allow it be done! He believed that the lone manner to free bondage from the United States was through bloodshed. He was right in stating this because on April 12, 1861, the American Civil War began. It was the most destructive war of all time fought in the Western Hemisphere. In footings of human life it was besides one of the most dearly-won wars. There were many different grounds for the Civil War, bondage being the prevailing ground. The immediate ground for the Civil War was the battle between the North and South over Fort Sumter. Lincoln had given South Carolina the pick of either allowing the garrison to keep out or unfastened fire with its shore batteries. In answer, the Southerners commenced fire. The onslaught on Fort Sumter and its gaining control angered many Northerners and began a loyal battle to salvage the brotherhood. One of the first major conflicts of the Civil War was the Battle of Bull Run. Federal military personnels, amounting to 30,000 marched from Washington, D.C. , to assail the Confederate forces positioned near Bull Run Creek at Manassas Junction, Virginia. The Union forces were close to triumph until Confederate supports sent Union military personnels into a retreat back to Washington. This conflict boosted moral of the South and lowered the North s. The North s hope for a short war was shattered. The B attle of Antietam illustrates how bloody the Civil War really was. Lee led his ground forces across the Potomac into enemy district. He hoped that a major Confederate triumph in the North would convert Britain to back up the Confederacy. McClellan, commanding officer of the Union ground forces had intercepted Lee s program and the invading Confederates at Antietam Creek. This was the bloodiest twenty-four hours of all conflicts that went on during the Civil War. Entire casualties for both sides amounted up to over 26,000 work forces, either being killed, wounded, captured or losing. The Battle of Gettysburg was besides one of the bloodiest conflicts. On July 1,1863 Lee and the Confederate ground forces surprised the Federal soldiers at Gettysburg. Through the yearss of conflict much of the Confederate ground forces was destroyed because of Lee s finding to win the war. Much of the Confederates were left for dead and the few that remained alive retreated to Virginia. This conflict was one of the most important conflicts of the war and besides one of the bloodiest. The figure of casualties was the greatest for this conflict, adding up to over 50,000 work forces killed, wounded, losing or captured. A month before Lee surrendered his ground forces President Lincoln was assassinated. His blackwash shocked and horrified many. This was the concluding act of ferociousness during the clip period of the Civil war. John Brown was right in stating that the lone manner to free the United States of bondage is through bondage. The combat between the North and South over slavery provinces and slavery free-states had to stop. Through the loss of lives, the devastation of land and places, and the blackwash of the president the Americans rid themselves of bondage

Reflective diary Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words - 2
Reflective diary - Essay Example From this lesson, I managed to learn on the meaning of culture shock. It refers to a personal disorientation that an individual may feel, when he or she is experiencing a way of life that is unfamiliar, that is brought about due to his or her immigration status, or the visitation of a new country (French, 2010). It is also possible to refer to culture shock as a movement that an individual experiences when he or she is between social movements, or as a new type of living. The definition of culture shock was very similar to the definition that I had, concerning culture shock. This is because, as I understood it, culture shock was a situation whereby an individual was experiencing some new cultural values, and he or she could not fit into these new cultural values. From the lessons, I learnt that this aspect of culture shock has six major components, and they are, a strain that emanates because of the desire on an individual to adapt to a particular culture, a sense of the loss of professionalism, and status, feelings of rejection by members of the new culture, confusion in values, roles and self-identity, disgust, anxiety and anger in regard to particular practices, and a sense of helplessness (Hofstede, 2005). These components of culture shock are very familiar to me. This is because it reminds me of a time when I had gone to visit some relatives in Brazil. The dominant language spoken is Portuguese, and I was unable to fit in within the society. This is because I could not understand the language; hence I was confined in the house, on most of the occasions. I felt rejected, mostly because nobody was willing to listen to me, mainly because I could not speak Portuguese in a fluent manner. My socialization was only limited to my relatives. Furthermore, I was confused, and I had a feeling of helplessness. The situation that I was passing through is an example of a culture shock, and it meets all the conditions identified by Kalervo Oberg,
